SEARCY - The Harding football team was ranked 22nd nationally in the Sporting News Preseason Division II Poll. Also, senior quarterback David Knighton was named to the Preseason All-Division II Team.

Harding, which opens its season on Aug. 30 at Missouri Southern, was last ranked in the AFCA Division II Coaches' Poll in 2005.

Knighton, who placed seventh in the Harlon Hill Award voting last season, will begin his fourth season as Harding's starting quarterback. The Seminole, Okla., native holds 27 school records and has a chance to become only the third Gulf South Conference quarterback ever to throw for more than 10,000 yards.
