HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - The Harding women's golf team placed sixth in the nine-team Gulf South Conference Championship held Sunday and Monday at the Hot Springs Country Club. The Lady Bisons struggled in the first round, shooting 356, but responded with a strong 335 in round two. Harding finished at 691, its second-best GSC Championship score in the four years of the program.
Harding's top finisher was freshman Evelyn Poteet, who tied for 15th, shooting 86-82--168. Seniors Brandi Watkins and Natalie Gay tied for 18th at 171, and sophomore Ragan Muncy and freshman Shelby Stavely tied for 28th at 183.
West Florida won the team championship, shooting 638, 12 strokes better than second-place Henderson State. West Florida's Bhavna Shetty shot 154 to win the individual championship by four strokes over Jenna Araco of Henderson State and Michelle Meher of West Georgia.
The GSC Championship concludes the season for the Lady Bisons. Harding seniors Brandi Watkins (84.3) and Natalie Gay (85.8) recorded Harding's top two strokes averages in the 2008-09 season.
