SEARCY – Clayton West, a 5-foot-10, 190-pound centerfielder from Lubbock, Texas, has signed an NCAA National Letter of Intent and will join the Harding University baseball team for the 2010 season. West will transfer to Harding from Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas, and will be a junior.
“Clayton is a very good defensive center fielder that brings a proven bat to our program from one of the best junior college conferences in the country,” said Harding head coach Dr. Patrick McGaha. “In addition, he has the kind of speed that causes tremendous problems for pitchers and defenses once he reaches base. Clayton is a great addition to our program and I look forward to having him on campus.”
West played in 48 games for Western Texas and hit .345 with three home runs and 34 RBI. He ranked second on the team with 51 runs scored and led the team with 13 stolen bases. He earned honorable mention All-Western Junior College Athletic Conference.
West attended Frenship High School in Wolfforth, Texas, where he hit .533 with 60 hits and 45 RBI as a senior. He also stole 45-of-48 bases and earned First-Team All-State honors as an outfielder.
