SEARCY – Harding University head football coach Ronnie Huckeba announced Tuesday that sophomore running back Jeff Wood will be the 2009 recipient of the J.D. Jones Scholarship.

The scholarship is funded by the Jones family, including former Bison football players Rick, Randy and David Jones, in honor of their father, J.D., and goes to a player who is a former walk-on.

Wood, a mechanical engineering major from Bedford, Texas, played in 10 games last season as a reserve running back and special teams player. He scored his first collegiate touchdown on a one-yard run against Arkansas-Monticello and tied for the team lead with seven tackles on kickoff returns.

Last season’s recipients were Cade Caton and R.F. Hendricks.
