SEARCY – Harding University runners Katy Grant and Vicky Schandevel were named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VI Track and Field/Cross Country Team on Thursday.
Grant, a senior academically with one season of cross country and track remaining, earned her second straight Academic All-District honor. Grant, a native of Mustang, Okla., has qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Nationals in each of the last two seasons in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She is a three-time All-Gulf South Conference and All-South Region performer in cross country. Grant is a social work major and Spanish minor with a perfect 4.00 GPA.
Schandevel, who hails from Greer, S.C., returned to Harding following a two-year break to complete her eligibility in the indoor and outdoor track seasons. She excelled in the indoor 5,000 meters and the outdoor 3,000-meter steeplechase, running NCAA provisional qualifying times in both events. This is her third Academic All-District honor.
The ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District teams are voted on by the district’s sports information directors. District VI includes NCAA II, NCAA III, and NAIA schools in Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Mississippi.
Grant and Schandevel were two of ten student-athletes that will move on the Academic All-America ballot. The All-America team will be released on Friday, June 19.
