Bison Baseball to Host Alumni Weekend; Honor 1984 AIC Championship Team

1984 Baseball Team
The 1984 Harding team won the AIC Championship with a 12-2 record.

SEARCY - The Harding baseball team will host its Second Annual Harding University Alumni Baseball Game and Black-and-Gold World Series on Oct. 16-18. This year's game will honor the 25th anniversary of Harding's 1984 AIC Championship Team.

All former Harding varsity baseball players are invited to come and play. Please RSVP before Oct. 2 with Melissa Westerholm. Former players may RSVP by calling 501-279-4305 or by emailing to mwesterh@harding.edu.

The festivities will begin Friday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. at Jerry Moore Field as the 2010 Harding team will play game one of its Black-and-Gold World Series.

On Saturday, the Alumni Game will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed by game two of the Black-and-Gold World Series at 1:30 p.m. At 4:30, the 2009 season highlight video will be shown in the Ganus Athletic Center, followed by dinner. The Harding football team plays Valdosta State on Saturday night at 6 p.m. and the 1984 team will be honored at halftime.

Sunday at 1:30 p.m. is the final game of the Black-and-Gold World Series.

The 1984 team, coached by Dick Johnson, won the Arkansas Intercollegiate Championship with a 12-2 conference record. Harding Athletics Hall of Famer Marty Ninemire led the team in hitting with a .417 batting average. The top pitcher was Steve Pilkington, who had a 6-1 record and a 2.73 ERA.
