Volleyball Opens GSC Tournament with Win over Valdosta State 3-0

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Harding volleyball team defeated Valdosta State 3-0 in the opening round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament on Friday. The Lady Bisons improve to 18-10 on the season.

Harding had a great hitting night as they had 42 kills on 117 attempts with 12 errors for a .256 hitting percentage.

Freshman outside hitter Mollie Arnold captured her 15th career double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs for the Lady Bisons. Sophomore outside hitter Jordan Smith led Harding in hitting with 10 kills on 18 attempts with one error for a .500 hitting percentage.

Sophomore setter Amber Schinzing also collected a double-double as she controlled the Harding offense with 35 assists and also added 11 digs. The Lady Bisons defense was led by senior defensive specialist Emily Tate who had 17 digs. Tate also had a team-high three service aces in the match.

The Harding defense didn't allow a Valdosta State player to reach double-figure in kills as four Blazers (21-11) ended with seven kills. Chelsea Luttfring led Valdosta State defense with 12 digs.

The Lady Bisons held the Blazers to 34 kills on 115 attempts and forced 18 errors for a .139 hitting percentage. Harding is 15-1 on the season when they outhit their opponent.

Harding will be back in action on Saturday at 2:30 p.m., as they will face the host team West Florida for a chance to play in the GSC Championship.
