NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Harding women's basketball team fell to Lipscomb 72-67 in overtime on Saturday in their only exhibition game before the start of the 2010-11 campaign.
Junior guard Sierra Rollins hit a jumper with 11 seconds remaining in regulation to put Harding on top 63-60. With three second remaining in the game, Jenna Bartsokas was fouled behind the 3-point line which gave the Division I opponent Lipscomb a chance to tie the game. Bartsokas made all three of her free shots to send the game into overtime.
In overtime, Bartsokas hit a jumper with 2:37 remaining to give Lipscomb a 67-65 lead. On the next Harding possession, the Lady Bisons missed two jumpers and then turned the ball over and fouled to send Lipscomb to the line. Brittany Duerk made 1-of-2 free throws to put Lipscomb on top 68-65. With 44 seconds remaining in overtime, senior forward Kallie Bartee hit a layup to cut the deficit to one. On the next Lipscomb possession, Leah McAlister hit a 3-pointer with 24 seconds remaining to seal the win for Lipscomb.
Rollins hit 7-of-11 field goals and led Harding with 20 points and nine rebounds. Senior guard Bailey St. Clair had 14 points and had a team-high five assists. Senior guard Brittany Gottsponer, transfer from Arkansas Tech, hit 3-of-6 3-pointers and finished with 11 points for the Lady Bisons.
Bartsokas led Lipscomb with 21 points, hitting 8-of-9 from the free throw line. Brittany Duerk captured a game-high 11 rebounds for Lipscomb.
Harding outshot Lipscomb, shooting 42 percent from the field (21-of-50) to Lipscomb's 38.8 percent from the field (19-of-49). The Lady Bisons also lead both teams in rebounds, 42-31.
Harding hit 21-of-28 from the free line (75 percent).
The Lady Bisons will open their 2010-11 season Nov. 15 in Searcy as they host Central Baptist at 5:30 p.m.
