Lady Bisons Fall to Arkansas Tech in GSC Semifinals

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – The Harding women’s basketball team had its season come to an end Saturday in the semifinals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament at the DeSoto Civic Center. The Lady Bisons fell 68-45 to Arkansas Tech, who moves into the finals against either Delta State or Valdosta State.

Harding finished the season 17-12 overall, the team’s fourth straight winning season. It was also its fourth straight trip to the conference tournament. Arkansas Tech, the seventh-ranked team in Division II, improved to 27-2.

Harding had its poorest shooting effort of the season, connecting on 15-of-57 shots (26.3 percent). Arkansas Tech had 22 steals and forced 30 turnovers.

Arkansas Tech, which led 34-27 at halftime, was led by freshman forward Jessica Weatherford with 19 points. Weatherford was the GSC West Division Freshman of the Year. Junior guard Jenny Vining had 18 points, and Natalia Santos had 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Harding was led by 11 points from junior Bailey St. Clair and 10 from sophomore Sierra Rollins.

Saturday’s loss was the final game for Harding seniors Stacey Owens, Kaitlin Skinner and Meaghen Kelleybrew.
