SEARCY – Three different Harding players had three hits each and the Bisons' 14-hit attack, their highest of the season, gave the team a 9-3 victory over Waldorf College on Monday at Jerry Moore Field. With the win, Harding completed the five-game sweep of Waldorf and extended its winning streak to eight games, tied for its longest under current Bison head coach Dr. Patrick McGaha.
With the game tied 4-4, Harding (10-10) scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away. Freshman Dylan Blount laced a two-run single, and the Bisons also picked up runs on a bases loaded walk to Will McDonald and a sacrifice fly from Jason Nappi.
Nappi was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. Freshman Paul Anzalone was also 3-for-4, scoring once and driving in two. Blount also had three hits and three RBI and extended his hitting streak to six games. Clay West also continued his recent hitting success with two singles and also has a six-game hitting streak.
Alex Smith started on the mound for the Bisons and went five innings and allowed only three hits and one earned run. He left with the lead, but Waldorf (0-5) scored one in the top of the sixth to tie the game 4-4.
Freshman Tyler Billen (2-0) got his second win of the series in relief. He allowed only one hit and one unearned run in two innings of work.
Brian Schultz went 3-for-4 for Waldorf, an NAIA school located in Iowa.
Geoff Mann (0-1) took the loss. He allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Harding's next action will be on Saturday and Sunday in Magnolia, Ark., as the Bisons begin Gulf South Conference play at No. 3-ranked Southern Arkansas.
