SEARCY – They both came from Down Under, not Australia, but the Southern Hemisphere. South African David Ferreira and Brazilian Marco Ruiz of the Harding tennis team were named to the Gulf South Conference Men’s Tennis All-Decade Team on Thursday.
Ferreira played at Harding from 2001-05 and earned 1st Team All-GSC honors three times. He was the GSC West Division Freshman of the Year in 2002 and the 15th-ranked singles player in the South Region in 2003. In his career, he compiled a 44-31 singles record with 38 of those wins coming at the No. 1 singles position. Ferreira also amassed a 51-20 career doubles record, including 27 wins at No. 1.
Ruiz just completed his four-year career at Harding, earning All-GSC honors all four seasons and becoming only the 15th tennis player in conference history to record that feat. He also collected Academic All-GSC honors three times. Ruiz posted a 37-14 career singles record and 36-27 doubles mark with 34 of those victories coming at No. 1 doubles.
