ADA, OKla. – The Harding women's basketball team opened their three game road trip with a 65-49 victory over East Central on Thursday night in Great American Conference action. Harding is now 2-0 in conference for the first time since the 1998-99 season.
The Lady Bisons (9-3) were led by senior guard Sierra Rollins who hit 7-of-13 from the field and finished with 18 points. Sophomore forward Kristen Celsor had a season-high 16 points, making 5-of-10 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Freshman forward Arielle Saunders tied a career-high with 12 points.
The Lady Bisons made 20-of-28 from the free throw line. It's the second time this season Harding has made 20 or more free throws in a game. HU made 23 against St. Edward's earlier this season.
Harding grabbed 36 rebounds to East Central's 28. The Lady Bisons were led by senior forward Cherilyn McMenamy who came off the bench and grabbed a season-high nine rebounds.
East Central (2-11, 0-3 GAC) was led by Jourdan Clark and Fanta Toure who each had eight points for the Lady Tigers.
East Central outshot the Lady Bisons hitting 18-of-44 (41 percent) to Harding's 21-of-55 (38 percent). It's the second time this season HU has been outshot by their opponent and won.
Harding forced 22 turnovers on 12 steals and two blocks.
The Lady Bisons will play their second of three road games on Saturday as they travel to Southwestern Oklahoma State. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
