Harding Falls 100-85 to Augustana at NCAA Central Region Tournament

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Daniel Jansen, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Year, had 32 points and six rebounds to lead No. 1 seed Augustana to a 100-85 victory over No. 8 seed Harding on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Central Regional at the Sanford Pentagon.

Augustana (29-2) is the No. 2-ranked team in Division II and advances to meet the winner of No. 4 seed Nebraska-Kearney and No. 5 seed Fort Hays State on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

Harding (20-11), the regular season champion of the Great American Conference, saw its season come to an end but not before reaching 20 wins for the sixth time in the program's history. It was also the Bisons' sixth NCAA Tournament appearance.

Augustana scored the first nine points of the game, but five first-half 3-pointers by Harding junior Will Francis kept the Bisons close. The Vikings, ranked ninth in Division II in rebound margin, took advantage of their height to grab 11 offensive rebounds and outscore the Bisons 13-4 on second-chance points.

Francis had 17 points in the first half, but Augustana led 51-38 at the break. The 51 points tied the most by a Harding opponent in the first half this season.

Blake McNair hit a 3-pointer for the Bisons with 14:32 left in the game to pull within 10 at 61-51, but that was a close as Harding got. Augustana's 12-2 run that followed allowed the Vikings to pull away.

Jacob Gibson and Reggie Anthony were Harding's top two offensive options in the second half. Gibson, one of six Bison seniors, scored 18 of his team-high 21 points in the second half. Anthony had 12 of his 17 after the break and dished out seven assists. Francis finished with 19 points.

Jansen was outstanding for Augustana, hitting 10-of-13 from the field, including 3-of-5 3-pointers, and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. It was his seventh career 30-point game. The Vikings' starting five scored 91 of the team's 100 points, and Augustana became the first team to score 100 points against Harding since West Florida scored 102 in 2004.

Other Harding seniors playing their final game were McNair, Dawson Yates, John Hudson, and Antoine Burrell. Andraz Kavas, also a senior, was injured in the eighth game of the season.
