Jeff Morgan

AT HARDING
Jeff Morgan is in his seventh year as Harding's athletic director. He assumed the role on Aug. 1, 2018, taking over for Greg Harnden. Morgan is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Harding’s 18-team athletic department.

Previously, Morgan served as the Bisons’ head men's basketball coach for 30 seasons, retiring following the 2022-23 campaign. He finished his coaching career with a 458-382 overall record and a 441-372 mark at Harding.

Morgan was the fourth head men’s basketball coach since Harding restarted basketball in 1957. Upon his retirement, he ranked fourth in career victories among coaches at Arkansas colleges, trailing only Don Dyer (601), Bill Vining (520), and Cliff Garrison (463). He holds the school records for both games coached (813) and wins (441).

Coaching Highlights & Achievements

  • Championships: Morgan led Harding to regular-season championships in 2008, 2013, and 2016. His 2014 team won the GAC Tournament championship as the No. 5 seed.

  • Postseason: Guided his teams to 21 postseason tournament appearances, including six NCAA Division II national tournaments (1996, 2003, 2008, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016) and one NAIA national tournament.

  • Rankings: The 2011 team finished the season ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division II. His Bisons were named the Gulf South Conference West Division Team of the Decade from 2000-10.

  • Key Victories: Recorded 16 career victories over nationally ranked teams, including wins over the No. 2-ranked team in the country—Montevallo (2004) and Alabama-Huntsville (2012).

  • Service: At the time of his retirement, Morgan was the longest-tenured coach in the Great American Conference. He served as a representative for the GAC men’s basketball coaches on the NABC Congress, served on the NCAA Division II men’s basketball championships committee for four years, and was the chairman of the men’s basketball Central Region advisory committee.

Player Development During Morgan's tenure, his players received:

  • 38 All-Conference honors

  • 21 All-Region honors

  • 7 All-America honors

  • 6 Conference Player-of-the-Year honors

  • 56 Academic All-Conference honors, 9 Academic All-District, and 3 Academic All-America honors.

Additionally, Morgan had numerous players continue their careers in overseas basketball leagues.

PRIOR TO HARDING
Morgan was the head coach at West Texas A&M for the 1992-93 season, where he compiled a 17-10 record.

PLAYING CAREER
Morgan began his collegiate playing career at York College, where he set the school record for assists. He played his final two years at West Texas A&M, earning Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors.

EDUCATION
Morgan received his bachelor’s degree from West Texas A&M in 1989 and his master’s degree in 1992.

FAMILY
Morgan and his wife, Christy, have three children—Davis, Emma, and Ellie.
